Placing pieces from clues

Given clues such as "the rook is not next to the king" and "the bishop shares no rank with the queen", place all the pieces consistently. This is a constraint-satisfaction puzzle: each clue removes possibilities, and you eliminate until one arrangement survives.

A grid of which piece can be on which square makes the deductions visible: mark a cell impossible when a clue forbids it, and mark it forced when it is the only cell left in a row or column. Apply the most restrictive clue first, because it cuts the search the most and often triggers a chain of further eliminations.
