Zweiteilige Konnektoren: nicht nur … sondern auch – Telc B1

Two-part conjunctions (zweiteilige Konnektoren) link two parallel parts of a sentence.

nicht nur … sondern auch (not only … but also):
Ich lerne nicht nur Deutsch, sondern auch Mathematik.

Other common pairs:
- sowohl … als auch (both … and)
- entweder … oder (either … or)
- weder … noch (neither … nor)

Word order: After nicht nur and sondern auch the same structure is usually repeated. The verb position follows the normal rules for the clause (e.g. in main clause verb in second position).
