Passiv (Passive Voice) – Telc B1

Passiv shifts focus from who does the action to the action or the object.

Formation: werden (conjugated) + Partizip II.
Das Buch wird gelesen. (The book is being read.)
Das Buch wurde gelesen. (The book was read.)

With modal verbs: Das muss gemacht werden. — werden in infinitive at the end.

Vorgangspassiv (process passive): werden + Partizip II.
Zustandspassiv (state passive): sein + Partizip II — Die Tür ist geöffnet. (The door is open.)

Tip: In B1 you often meet Passiv in short news or instructions. Identify the subject (what is being done) and the verb form (werden + Partizip II).
